Last Thursday we organized our biggest event so far, the JIRA and Confluence Nordic Conference 2012. Almost 150 guests, speakers and partners gathered at Finlandia Hall, Helsinki to spend a day with Atlassian software and each other. It was a long but great day full of interesting things to learn about: meeting partners and experts of the Atlassian community, networking with other users as well as a number of cases presenting the way JIRA and Confluence are being used in very different types of companies and industries.
The day started out with registration and breakfast, after which Ville Availa, the CEO of Ambientia welcomed everyone and opened the day and Feico Mol brought greetings from Atlassian, the maker of the software that this day was dedicated to. The keynote speakers took the stage next, as Antti Miettinen presented the new Finnair group intranet that was built on Confluence and published in June. He showed us how much effort was put to user experience and design, because it was realized that intranet today is actually the user interface of an organization.
Perttu Tolvanen, a web and CMS expert, compared available intranet platforms in terms of costs and benefits and their fit with different intranet types required by organizations. Confluence did well in his analysis especially when it comes to building a modern, social intranet and getting the most value for the investment.
The afternoon was dedicated to case presentations divided into two tracks, JIRA and Confluence, and specific aspects to agile and collaborative project and working methods. We got to hear from companies using Atlassian software in industries such as shipbuilding (STX), gambling (PAF), security (Securitas) and energy management (Landis+Gyr) to mention a few. All presentations are now available on SlideShare, and we’ve got videos of them coming soon as well.
Next year, we are planning to organize the conference again and make it even better! We are now in the process of gathering feedback from our guests, partners and hosts and compiling our lessons learned to really understand what kind of a conference we should put together for you next time. Information about the conference as we start planning it will be updated to the conference site www.jcn.fi Thanks again for everyone who was there or helped make it happen – hope to see you next year when JCNC returns!
